Keep Track of Stuff on The Cheap

In April of this year the TrakDot device will begin to be shipped by GlobaTrac LLC. The device is a small unit placed in a suitcase (or anything) you are going to be separated from, but don’t want to lose track of. You can get location information sent to your smart phone or your computer from the device telling you its location. Beyond luggage, why not use this for automobiles, private airplanes, boats, loved ones? Some of the beneficial features: Very flexible, small, and only $13/year for the monitoring service.

What uses can you think of for this? Please add your comments!

  1. Questions to and answers from Joe Morgan with Global Trac on teh Trakdot device...

    Dear Sirs,

Intrigued by what appears to be some very neat functionality in your device I had shared it with followers of my blog recently (click here to view).

Does (will) this device only work within airports based on some airport facility resident technology?
If so would the baggage (with the device) go “off radar” as soon as it is removed from the airport property, for example, if taken off site for storage by the airlines, or if taken home accidently by a passenger who mistook it for their luggage?

In cases such as these what information would the client be able to get as to the baggage location?

Will your next generation device be more “all purpose” device able to track luggage (in a compliance way) and track things such as autos and the like when stored within them?

Thank you for your clarification on these questions.

    Greetings Sir,

First of all, thank you Sir for your astute questions.

To your first question, “does (will) this device only work within airports based on some airport facility resident technology?” ; All commercial airports support operation of GSM phones. . .the Trakdot is a GSM device that reports to our “Home Carrier” and then that aforementioned “Home Carrier”, actually sends the SMS message to your cell phone. Therefore if your phone works, so doeas Trackdot.

With respect to your second question regarding removal from airport property; we can still locate the device within (approx.) 1500 meters. . . but not with the specificity that one may require to retrieve the bag.

Our original approach was “We tell you which Airport. . .the Air Carrier tells you Where in that specific airport”. This was a very conscious decision for Price, and battery consumption reasons. We certainly have today devices that will locate you bag within + /- 3 meters. . . .they just cost more money. . . .both initially and per month.

    Hope this Helps!

    Joe
